Call or email Talking Toddlers LLC to discuss your concerns and determine if your child might benefit from an evaluation and/or therapy services. We work through BabyNet referrals and can guide you through the process. Our referrals come from one of the many early intervention companies in Greenville.
Once a child is referred to BabyNet, the family will be contacted by a Service Coordinator, who will further explain the BabyNet system and will then assist in determining if the child is eligible for BabyNet services. If your child is found eligible for BabyNet, you will then be offered a choice of Early Intervention providers in your area. The early interventionist will coordinate the speech evaluation with one of our speech language pathologists.
Yes, we require an evaluation to determine the need for services. A comprehensive evaluation is very important for your child. A thorough evaluation allows the therapist to precisely target a child’s strengths and weaknesses for intervention, as therapy is not a “one size fits all” experience. We can also accept an evaluation completed in the past 6 months if the previous evaluation included all areas of concern. We also require a prescription for speech therapy from your primary care provider. Following the evaluation, interpretations and findings are discussed in detail with parents and/or guardians. A written report summarizing the findings and recommendations is completed for parents, guardians, early interventionist and any other professionals involved in the child’s care.
What ages do you work with and where are services provided?
Talking Toddlers provides speech, language, and feeding therapy services for children birth to age 3. We will come to you! Services are held in the home or at your child’s daycare. Typically, a speech session lasts for 60 minutes once weekly but may vary depending on the child’s needs. We understand the first visit may make you and your child feel anxious, and we want to make this experience reassuring for your child and your family. New experiences can be intimidating to a child of any age. At Talking Toddlers, we strive to make our therapy sessions fun, using evidenced based play-based therapy for children. With child-focused therapy and exceptional staff, you and your child will feel right at home with us!
Do parents attend the sessions?
We encourage parents to sit in on their child’s therapy sessions. It is helpful for the parent/caregiver to see their child's hard effort and interaction in therapy. It is beneficial for the child if the parent learns therapeutic techniques from the therapist for carryover at home. It is important for the therapist to have parent feedback regarding the child’s progress outside of the therapy session. We understand that it is not always possible for parents to attend their child’s sessions, but we do ask that the parent make every effort to be as involved as possible in the treatment process. If therapy is provided at daycare, the SLP will communicate with the classroom teacher and parents to facilitate carry over of newly acquired skills outside of the therapy setting.
